Review A paramount goal of applied sport philosophy is to
enhance your self-understanding. By now, you should be aware of different ways
of understanding and the role that your movement activities can play in
expanding your awareness of your self. A major component in this process is
mind/body dualism. Cartesian dualism colors the way you see yourself, the way
you move, the way you approach relationships, even the way you earn a living. In
this chapter we explored this mind/body relationship along a continuum from the
extremes of dualistic thinking to the realms of embodied consciousness. After
this review, we can see the power of philosophy. A change in our self-perception
can affect our thinking, our moving, our very being.
